WOLE BALOGUN, Ado Ekiti

It was drama in some communities in Ekiti on Friday when many members who claimed to belong to some opposition parties in the state warmly received wives of candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), vying for various senatorial and house of representatives positions ahead of the forthcoming polls and expressed their support for candidates of the party.

The members said they were supporting APC because they were dissatisfied with the way their parties in opposition had treated them.

Speaking with newsmen during the campaign, one of women Seliat Opeyemi, said: “I have worked so very much for my party, spent my money and energy in campaigning for the party and attended many meetings for several years but do you know that I can’t point to any achievement that I have got from the party. But I hear many of my friends in APC who have benefitted so much in little time the party has come into power. This is why I am openly identifying with the APC now, singing their songs and joining others to campaign for them,” she said.

Wife of the governor of the state, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, led other wives of the candidates of the party including former Speaker, Ekiti Assembly, Femi Bamisile, who is APC House of representatives candidate for Ekiti South constituency 11; Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, senatorial candidate for Ekiti South; Yemi Adaramodu, House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti South and senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central, Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele among others who are seeking votes for the various elective positions. They all moved in a convoy from Emure, Ise in Ise-Orun local government to Ikere and Ilawe in Ekiti southwest among other communities in Ekiti South.

The wives urged the electorate to vote the APC to enjoy the next level of progress the party is giving to the nation.

Erelu Fayemi and the other women leaders told the people to ensure they use their index fingers to cast their vote for the party to prevent void votes which were recorded during the governorship poll on July 14 last year.

Responding, some residents trooped out from their homes armed with brooms to receive the campaign train. They sang ‘Sai Baba!’, ‘APC, next level, progress!!!!’ etc, in solidarity with the wives of the candidates.

In a gesture to compensate the teeming supporters among others, Erelu Fayemi and others doled out food and provision which included beverages, tea bags, 2kg sized Semovita, Spaggetti, Indomie sachets, household items and many others to them. The excited people received the gifts with great joy and wished the train success.

Erelu Fayemi said: “Our dear mothers and women, the youths and our lovely people, we bring greetings from out President Mohammadu Buhari and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, our Governor Kayode Fayemi and other candidates.

We also urge you to kindly cast your votes with your forefingers for APC so that the votes would not be a waste. A vote cast with the forefinger will not be a waste, so make sure you cast your vote with your forefinger,” she said.
