Ahead of the February 25 Presidential Election, and the March 11, 2023 state level elections, the National Conscience Party (NCP) has adopted and endorsed Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed as their Presidential candidate and Vice Presidential candidate in the February 25 Presidential Election, and all the other LP candidates for the election.
NCP condemned what it called “the array of unpopular, unjust and inhuman policies” being rolled out by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government, which it noted has worsened the socio-economic and psychological wellbeing of the masses, and asked its members nationwide to vote for candidates of the Labour Party (LP) at all the elections.
NCP, which is fighting its deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in court gave the directive in a communique cosigned by its National Chairman, Dr Yinusa Salisu Tanko, who is the spokespersons of the ObiDatti Presidential Campaign Council, and its National General Secretary, Dr Vicgenial Chinonyelum Odumejemba, after the 2nd Emergency Meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) and National Coordinating Council (NCC) of the NCP in Abuja.
The communique read, “Given the present state of the Nation, the NCP as an ideologically structured political party cannot fold its arms to condone the array of unpopular, unjust and inhuman policies that the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari rolled out, which has worsened the socio-economic and psychological wellbeing of the masses.
“Based on the foregoing, we resolved that since Labour Party shares similar political and philosophical ideology with NCP and also because NCP believes in the intellectual capacity, administrative acumen and political sagacity of LP Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Gregory Obi, and being that his 7point agenda is in consonant with the 10care program of the NCP with the mantra of Abolition of Poverty, the NCP, therefore, direct its members across 36 states of the Federation and FCT, to massively canvass, and mobilise the people, youth, artisans, market women, traders, professional bodies and all eligible voters to cast their votes for all candidates of Labour Party in the forthcoming elections.”
The NCP also appointed a 7 man committee headed by Mr Tunde Agunbiade and Dr Odemejemba to pursue its suit challenging the deregistration of the party to conclusion, and plan and conduct a National Convention for the party as Dr. Tanko bows out as Chairman of the NCP.
It also expelled the former Governorship Candidate of the party in Edo State, and National Deputy Chairman, Peter Omoragbon for gross misconduct and named Godwin Uwana from Akwa Ibom.
Other vacant positions filled include those of National Deputy Chairman, North Central where Samuel Tayo replaces Late Idris Adamu, Mr Agunbiade replaces former Lagos State Governorship Candidate of the party, Late Ayodele Akele as Ex officio Lagos State, while Dr Odemejemba is the new National Secretary.
