• Perfect oatmeal with fruit
•Pix: Sun News Publishing

Sometimes there is nothing more comforting and satisfying than a great bowl of oatmeal. More so if you are still suffering from the Valentine day ‘overload.’ With its high fibre content, it fills and has a great flavour.

The fibre content could also help to clean the body of all the waste of the Valentine ‘loads of sweeties-chocolates, cakes and candies plus wine.’

Moreover, it is equally a perfect bowl with the much needed extra nutrients that could, hopefully, put the body back in shape after such a feast. The nutrients are: manganese, vitamin k, dietary fibre, biotin, hosphorus, tryptophan, vitamin B1 (thiamin), omega 3 fatty acids, magnesium and selenium.

Make sure you use good quality rolled oats for this recipe instead of quick oats. It is well worth the couple extra minutes of cooking time.
Preparation and cooking time is 15 minutes

Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups of water
Dash salt
1 cup or regular rolled oats
1¼2 teaspoon cinnamon
1¼2 cup raisins
1¼4 cup chopped walnuts
Soy milk or skim milk
Sweetener such as honey

Direction:
Combine the water, salt and oats in a small saucepan and turn the heat to high. When the water boils, turn the heat to low, add oatmeal and cook, stirring, until the water is just absorbed, about five minutes. Add cinnamon, raisins, and walnuts, stir. Cover the pan and turn off the heat. Let it set for five minutes. Serve with milk and sweetener.
