Fast rising musician, Cordryhme (real name, Charly Chucks Odili), has remained deeply rooted and fully committed to the task of pushing Nigerian music to the higher level.

The multi-instrumentalist, popularly known as Salvation Soldier, is staging a comeback to the music scene with a new album entitled: Re-Loaded.

According to him, “ I’m back, and fully re-loaded, the Re-Loaded, will set the Nigerian music scene on fire and from now on, the music stage is set to explode”. In a recent chat with Daily Sun in Lagos, Odili talked about his music, ‘musical sabbatical leave’, and other issues concerning the growth of the music industry.

Background
I was born and raised in Lagos, and I grew up with most of the follies and fables of every growing up child. As the third child in a family of six, almost all of us are involved in music, I became the one actually carrying the banner higher.

Music in the family
When I was growing up, my late father was always listening to good music, such as Micheal Jackson, Osadebay, Ebenezer Obey, Sunny Ade, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and others. And whenever we had a visitor, my dad always asked me to put on the music. But by so doing, I got interested in singing and song writing. In my school days, I used to play at nite clubs and music concerts. Then, I did songs of Jimmy Cliff, Lucky Dube, Michael Jackson, and other artistes. At a later stage, I played with famous Nigerian musicians like, Feladay, Jimmy Henshaw, Jude Levit, Ras Kimono, and others.

First album
My first album, Everlasting Song, was co-produced with Nelson Brown and it was a six-track album. Though, a quality music, it suffered promotional hitches, and was not successful in market.

Re-Loaded
With nine tracks Re-loaded is a circular music, and it parades hit tracks such as Next President, Fere Kufe, Listen 2 D Radio, Niger Delta, Baddest Woman, among others.

Inspiration
My inspiration to write songs is akin to a woman in love, appealing to be touched. And as soon as you touch her, that is when inspiration will begin to flow. Above all, God is the inspiration that drives me through, and makes my songs comes naturally.

Memorable concerts
I’d featured in many quality and memorable concerts, within and outside the country. Some of them include, Niger Delta Peace Concert in Warri and Port Harcourt (2005),
One Love Unity Show in Accra Ghana and Lekki Music Show.

Role models/heroes
First and foremost, Almighty God has always been my greatest Hero, mentor and a source of inspiration. Also, music icons like Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Bobby Benson and a few others, are quite special to me.

Nigerian Music Scene
Nigerian music has come of age, though it’s obvious that the industry is suffering from limited funding, modern recording facilities and quality promotional services. But, given the full support of the government, I believe that the entertainment industry can generate more revenue than crude oil. My kudos goes to the private investors who are really making waves in the industry.

Kind of music
My music is a testimony of what the Lord has done and will still do, not withstanding that my music gives stability of purpose, patience, courage and fortitude. It refines the character of the listeners and dancers. Also, it sanctifies their souls, and makes their eyes and minds open.
