The Cross River State Government recorded yet another success
on its cultural landscape as it recently hosted the maiden
edition of Easter musical festival tagged Calabar Easter Ball.
Held at Studio Tinapa on Easter Sunday, the hall was filled
to capacity as fun seekers and tourists defied the downpour
to witness the Paris based Nigeria female Jazz exponent, Asa,
who thrilled them to popular tunes that have made her one
of the much talked about artistes in the world.
Other artistes who performed during the Easter party include
Bankky W, Moncals a Calabar based comedian cum musician, GT
de Guiterman and Tosin Martins, a gospel artistes. The event
which was meant to be a concert eventually turned into a house
party, as the audience danced to various genres of music reeled
out by the musicians.
The Dee Jay D J Mix Master Brown also dished out diverse numbers
to which the audience either sang along with the artistes
or just nodded their heads.
Asa, who had her second outing in Calabar, following the 2008
Cross River State Christmas festival, thanked the State Government
for putting up the show which she described as one of
the best to make people happy especially during the Easter
period.
She urged other states to emulate Cross River by engaging
both musicians and the citizenry in such activities as a way
of carrying them along. She also commended the state for studio
Tinapa and its lighting facilities and equipment which she
described as one of the best anywhere in the globe.
Julius Agu, ace comedian, actor and singer doubled as the
MC and entertainer. The audiences were treated to some rib
cracking jokes in the course of his performance.
The show was attended by Governor Liyel Imoke, his wife, Obioma,
as well as members of the State Executive Council and a number
of tourists who visited the state during Easter.
The State Government used the occasion to promise tourists
that it would continue to organize entertainment programmes
to attract visitors during public holidays in its effort to
boost tourism programmes and make Cross River the preferred
destination.
