For multi-talented broadcaster and host of popular TV talkshow, New Dawn with Funmi, Funmi Iyanda, it is time to move upscale. After almost a decade of running New Dawn on NTA network, this month, delectable Funmi will hit the airwaves with a new talkshow Funmi's Favorites, a one-hour programme that will run every week for 26 weeks on national television in Nigeria.

According to Funmi, the talkshow will be a recap of New Dawn and would be unbelievable. She says: “Funmi’s Favorites is a recap of New Dawn. The talkshow will beautifully tell the story of Nigeria. It will run for a quarter and after this “gongo aso”, that is, it will be unbelievable.”

But then for Bill Uko, Project Co-ordinator of Funmi Favorites, the show will focus on some of the high points of the New Dawn with Funmi over the past eight years. "On Wednesday, April 9, 2000, at exactly 7 am, Funmi Iyanda said good morning to the city of Lagos and from that moment on, started an exceptional relationship with Nigerian television audience that transcends a mere television show. New Dawn was born, a show that puts spark, drama and compassion on TV. Since its debut, it has continued to maintain its focus: touching lives, changing lives and empowering people," he said.

Uko further disclosed that the new show will feature some of Funmi's personal favourite moments on her TV show, her favourite personalities, interviews and dialogues, and would also serve as a signpost to where she is headed in her work as a broadcast journalist, a precursor to yet another major project which she plans to launch later this year.

Funmi’s Favorites is coming at a time when Funmi is being awarded a Fellowship by the prestigious Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellowship. The award would qualify her to join the select band of young leaders who form the Archbishop Tutu Fellowship network.
A sneak preview during the week revealed Funmi's Favorites as essentially a concise version of New Dawn. The episodes have been re-edited into fast-paced, memorable renditions that are designed to evoke feelings of nostalgia as viewers re-live some of the most exciting moments ever witnessed on the show.

Tunji Adeyinka, CEO, Connect Marketing said since the issues to be raised on Funmi Favorites will be topical and needing expression beyond television, an audience interaction platform modeled after the modern social networking culture of sms and web has been built.
To ensure wider coverage, Funmi Favorites will run on several TV stations including STV, BRTV (Borno), RIMATV (Sokoto), Kano TV, PRTV, ITV Abuja, ESBS, RSTV, Delta TV, BCOS and ODTV with a plan to cater for Nigerians in the Diaspora through the cable.
