Da Jewels, winners of Star Quest 2007, the music talent hunt sponsored by Star lager, will not forget what happened last Saturday in a hurry. The event indeed marked a turning point in their musical career.

It was a celebration as the new kids on the block hit the record shelves with their debut effort on vinyl, dropped on Westside Music label and showing clear signals of creating an upset in the world music chart.

The new cross-over album, an eleven tracker, aptly titled after the band, “Da Jewels”, was produced by a formidable team of renowned and award-winning producers, comprising Wole Oni, OJB Jazreel, Cobham and Paul Runz while Solomon Arueya, Chief Executive Officer of Westside Music, stands out as the Executive Producer. Westside Music is also accredited to market and distribute the new album across the world.

Tracks of the highly danceable album include: an intro, obviously recorded to commemorate the band’s intimate experience during the Star Quest competition at the Fameland in which they contested last year and emerged winner.

The follow-up track, Soko is like a handshake across two nations-Nigeria and Ghana. The Jewels displayed their rare creative talent in spreading a love message to harmonize the existing relationship between the two countries.

Other irresistible tracks are Jasi, Wasi Le Mi and Iya rendered in English and Yoruba; as well as Shake Something, Which One You Dey, We Thank God, Promise Land and No Body Falls made in English.
Speaking during the album launch, the Marketing Director of NB, Mr. Wouter Fijnaut expressed great satisfaction with the musical prowess of Da Jewels band as well as the band’s firm positioning to take Nigeria to the next level in music.

“This new album by the Jewels is fantastic and will surely record a box office hit in the market both at the local and international music scene. It practically underscores their winning the Star Quest 2007. Star is very proud of them and everyone that has contributed to the successful production of the album,” he said.

In his own contribution, Senior Brand Manager Star, Mr Sampson Oloche described the just released album Da Jewels as a chartbuster.

“Our experience with the Star Quest contest so far indicates that lots of musical talents, waiting to be tapped, abound in this country. We made a success of KC Presh, winners of the maiden edition of Star Quest; We took it to the next level with D’Accord band, here, we are on the threshold of making history with Da Jewels, winners of the musical contest last year.

I think the sky is the limit,” Said Oloche.
Actually, as winners of the Star Quest musical contest last year, the six-man musical group made up of Ekuma Emmanuel, Eghaghe Festus, Mmerife Palmira on vocals, Egbayilo Vasco, Itemisan Gregory and Odia Julius were heavily celebrated and elevated to the exclusive class of superstardom with a choice accommodation in Lagos state, a family car and an eye-propping N5 million recording deal which saw to the making of their debut Da Jewels, unleashed into the market last weekend.
