All roads lead to the Kuramo Beach in Lagos on Easter Monday
where Jamaican dance hall divas Nyanda and Nailah Thourborne
aka Brick & Lace will thrill fun seekers with their psychedelic
dance hall style.
The event: 10th edition of the Kennis Music Easter Fiesta,
which began on Good Friday.
Known universally for their hit track, “Love is Wicked”,
the exquisite entertainers who are first major international
acts at the fiesta, would for the second time experience impeccable
performing routine as they jam along juju icon, King Sunny
Ade.
KSA and Brick & Lace will be joined by award winning 9ice,
2face Idibia and D’banj. Other stars that will perform
at the beach include 50 Cent’s pal, Eedris Abdulkareem,
re-emerging KSB (Kenny St.), Sound Sultan, Essence and Baba
Dee.
While Psquare and Dare Art Alade will enliven the decade old
event sponsored by Gordon’s Spark and Starcomms, Tee
A and AY will serve as comperes.
“When we started Kennis Music,” says Keke Ogungbe,
CEO, “many people were comfortable with thinking that
we would just be a flash in the pan. But to God be the glory,
it’s over a decade after, and we’re still going
on; waxing stronger and consolidating our position as the
leading brand in Nigerian entertainment.”
In 10 years of operations, Kennis Music has released over
60 albums; won Nigeria her first MTV and MOBO awards (2face
Idibia, Face2Face and Grass2Grace, 2005 and 2007 respectively),
and engraved it into public consciousness that music can be
a thriving business in Nigeria.
“It’s a dream matched with passion and sheer guts
that has brought us this far,” Keke concludes.
