As the curtain comes down on Star Quest TV reality show tonight
at the Expo Hall, Ocean View Restaurant in Victoria Island,
Lagos, the question on the lips of music fans is: which band
among the three finalists has recorded the highest vote and
thus would cart home the vital and eye-propping prizes at
stake?
18 contestants on Thursday had packed their bags and baggage,
and in an emotion laden voices, bided the Star Fame Land goodbye
in the first and final eviction of the competition.
But then which among the remaining 18 contestants in three
bands will be lucky enough to smile home with N5 million recording
deal, N2.4 million cash, a mini-van, one year accommodation
in choice area of Lagos as well as automatic ticket to perform
in this yearÅfs Star Trek national concert? Not only
these, the winning band will also perform at the Star Mega
Jam international concert coming up in December.
The road to Star Quest fame and fortune had been rough and
rugged. Thousands of wannabes had besieged the regional screening
centres in one big battle of survival, taking over all roads
and adjourning streets around the centres in Jos, Abuja, Enugu,
Benin and Lagos.
In Lagos, residents of Salvation Road where NiteShift Coliseum
venue of the regional screening is located had a hectic time
accessing their homes for the four days the screening lasted
as contestants were seen loitering around in large groups
discussing what would be their fate in the popular music talent
hunt which hit television screens on April 20.
Over 12,000 had applied and over 4,000 were short listed for
regional screenings. It proved a Herculean task for the judges
made up of Ruggedman, Weird MC, KC Presh, Albert Kalu and
Glory Williams to pick the 36 that eventually made it to Star
Fame Land.
From vocalists, drummers, saxophonists, keyboardists to guitarists
and trumpeters, it was a story of hard choice as the contestants
gave a good account of themselves rendering various genres
of music.
In the three weeks spent in the House, the contestants were
taken through several rigorous sessions of music lessons and
choreography. Popular artistes like 9nice also visited the
Fame Land to give the bands some pep talk.
Today’s grand finale will be broadcast live on NTA and
AIT networks. For Sampson Oloche, Senior Brand Manager, Star
lager, the quest is to create the hottest musical band in
Nigeria with the participation of the general public.
Launched in 2002, Star Quest has so far produced KC Presh,
D’accord and Da Jewels band which won the talent hunt
in 2007.
