The Rivers State government has concluded all arrangements to host the President of Republic of Togo, Faurre Gnassigbe, ECOWAS President, IBN Chambas, diplomats, celebrities and top businessmen in Africa at this year’s ECOWAS Peace Pageant holding in the Garden City on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
Objectives of the pageant include building platforms aimed at communicating and building the culture of peace and development in the sub-region, creating brand awareness, brand recognition and recall for the show, and ultimately using these to launder Rivers State’s image and sell its tourism and business potentials.
Leading the artistes performing at the event is the American multi-award winner, Brandy Norwood, 2Face, who will be joined by the duo of Wutah from Ghana and also Daniel Morris Nyarko and Frank Osei Afriyie, two biggest Ghanaian reggae artistes.
This year’s event is expected to have two representatives each from the 15 African countries and this is being done through an open and transparent process in all the participating countries. The ECOWAS Peace Pageant is definitely an event looking beyond the beauty of the participants; it is a statement communicating peace, development and originality of African beauty.
The reigning queen, Fatoumata Diallo from Senegal at a reception held for her by the Rivers State’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism on October 15, 2009 at Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt did not mince words in showering encomium on the government.
She says: “I am highly delighted to be in Port Harcourt again, the people here are warm and very good, most especially the way all the girls were treated before and after the event last year. I must not forget to once again thank the Rivers State Government for hosting this event last year and for the preparation for this year, I assure all girls coming from the 15 West African countries that they will have a wonderful experience here in Port Harcourt.”
The event is a presentation of 702 Productions, endorsed by the ECOWAS Commission, sponsored by the Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and supported by Dalex Finance, Ghana. iyan and Bidemi Idowu speaking.
