They are young, hot, pretty, sexy and talented. They are
also the new starlets setting Nollywood, and the entire local
moviedom, on fire with their daring roles. In fact they are
gradually and stylishly taking over the front rows from their
senior colleagues Saturday Sun, Nigeria’s king of the
Tabloids, welcomes you to the exclusive world of these fast-rising
actresses.
Cynthia Agholor
Busty and beautiful Cynthia is unarguably the hottest starlet
tantalising Nollywood with abundant skills and endowments.
The ‘Village Toaster’ star hails from Delta State.
Aside acting, she is also into modelling. The one time Miss
Oko Polytechnic, spent close to two months early last year
in South Africa, doing some modelling jobs. She once confessed
that she prefers dating white men to their Nigerian counterparts.
Ini Edo
‘Controversy’ is probably the best word to describe
dark-skinned Ini. One controversy after another has been trailing
every move of this starlet who catapulted to fame with her
scintillating outing in ‘World Apart’, few years
ago. She was banned for six months last year by the Enugu
State chapter of Actors Guild, for what was later described
as indecent dressing and seduction – whoever set dress
code for celebrities? She was, however, later pardoned after
serving few months of the suspension. As a multi-talented
starlet, pretty Ini, who is also an undergraduate shuttles
between Lagos and Enugu movie locations regularly for roles.
In fact, pundits are already calling her the new Genevieve
Nnaji.
Chioma Chukwuka
Quiet and easy going Chioma came to limelight with her superlative
role in ‘The Handkerchief (1-2)’ - a best seller
produced and directed by Theodore Anyanji few years ago. And
ever since, Chioma who is also from Anambra State, has not
looked back.
An undergraduate at the Lagos State University, she was once
rumoured to have enjoyed a sizzling but brief romance with
a top movie/music videos director. Pundits and critics are
still praising her role in recently released ‘11:45’
a flick she featured alongside Mwisho, a member of the defunct
Big Brother Africa fame late last year.
Funmi Holder
At a close encounter with multi-talented Funmi, what comes
to the mind of a movie-buff is that she is a carbon-copy of
Jada Pinkett, the Hollywood star wife of even bigger star
Will Smith. Petite Funmi, who is the last child of her family
has not stopped dazzling Nollywood after her arrival few years
ago. She says: “I have a passion for acting. Most people
don’t even know I’m studying a science-related
course at the University of Ibadan”. Her first lead
role in Madu Chikwendu’s ‘Bound by Destiny’,
late last year is still being applauded by movie followers.
Maureen Solomon
Though an Enugu-based actress, Maureen, frequents Lagos like
no man’s business. Aside movies, another thing that
made this “Songs of Sorrow” star more popular
was her well celebrated whirlwind romance with screen hunk
actor, Pat Attah. But unfortunately for love struck Maureen,
the affair crashed not too long after taking off, thereby
leaving her heartbroken and dejected for long. Despite the
setback, she is still setting Nollywood on fire with her romantic
roles and sexy shape.
Queen Ebigieson
Almost three years in Nollywood, Benin, Edo State-born Queen
is now the toast of many producers and directors because of
the way she interprets roles, especially wacky ones. She says:
“I’m very daring when it comes to interpreting
movie roles. Daring roles are meant for human beings to interpret.
It is all make-believe, no strings attached”.
The pretty and ebony black ‘Power of Trust’ star
had acted alongside virtually all the A-list stars in Nollywood
movies.
Jennifer Aguocha
Adim Williams, the cerebral and award-winning movie director,
discovered and nurtured sexy and wild Jennifer to the level
she is today. From Mbaise, Imo State, the ‘House on
Fire’ star has also proved her acting prowess in over
a dozen flick since her arrival three years back. Busty Jennifer
is also a professional dancer-cum-model.
Blessing Obi
Beautiful and ever-smiling Blessing is unarguably the “Newest
Face” rocking Nollywood to its very foundation. From
Ichida, Anambra State, ‘The Sinners’ star started
first as a model before veering into acting. In fact, she
is to present day Nollywood, what repentant bad girl, Eucharia
Anunobi–Ekwu, was in the early days of Nollywood.
Nollywood pundits say her biggest weapon is her charming smile.
It was also once rumoured that she had a hush-hush affair
with Chima Okoroji, an award winning movie director.
Sophia Chikere
Sophia is pretty and intelligent. And she rode on the back
of her director hubby, T-Chidi, to fame. According to insiders,
the star of ‘Standing Alone’ could always be assured
of automatic roles in many of her hubby’s movies. But
despite her abundant talents as a rising actress, she is always
selective when it comes to roles. She does this because of
her marital background .
Funto Thompson
Her daring and very challenging roles in hit movies like,
‘Against All Odds’, ‘Bold Hearts’,
‘Just Once’, ‘Murder In Mind’ and
few others stand Funto Fatoba Thompson out in the league of
rising actresses in Nollywood. Presently an English undergraduate
at the University of Lagos, pretty is happily married to top
movie director, Tarila Thompson. The Omotola Jalade look-alike
starlet also models and writes and produces movies. She also
costumes and runs a well stocked boutique called C’est
Chic. Lagos State born Funto, is also a mother of one.
