Detectives in Lagos are now digging into the activities of an amputee, who was arrested recently for burglary.
The 25-year-old Monday Timothy, from Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, allegedly broke into a house in Iroko Estate, along Isheri Olofin, belonging to Justice Ishola Oluwa (retd) on April 29, to steal video CD.

Another puzzle before the detectives now is to determine whether the suspect had been involved in the spate of robberies in the metropolis in the recent times.

The suspect, however, told Daily Sun that he had never handled gun since he was born or involved in any armed robbery. He however admitted breaking into the house of the former justice to steal.

“Yes, I broke into the house to steal video CD,” he told Daily Sun.
Another hard nut which the police are also trying to crack is how the suspect managed to scale a fence that was more than seven feet. The police are working on the theory that the suspect might have climbed the fence with the help of a gang member.

Timothy, who gained entry into the house at about 10am, was said to have thrown one of his crutches into the compound and used the other one to leap over the fence.
Having succeeded in jumping into the compound, the suspect allegedly broke the bulglary proof in one of the windows with a stick and gained access into the Oluwa’s sitting room.

As he was ransacking the house for money and other valuables, he heard a noise outside the compound. Suspecting that the owners of the house had returned, ended his operation abruptly and limped out of the house. Outside a crowd was waiting for him.

Timothy disclosed that it was the crowd that alerted policemen from Idimu police station. On the allegation that his amputated leg might have been the wages of his crimmal act, he said it was as a result of a fatal accident he had in Mushin area of Lagos two years ago.

He said he was forced to steal when he fell victim to fraudsters, who he said, duped him of N202,000, when he wanted to exchange genuine naira notes for counterfeits.

Timothy said he dropped out from Primary Five because of lack of money, having lost his parents. He described his arrest as an act of God, saying, “that is how God wants it, He doesn’t want me to continue stealing.

He appealed to the police to temper justice with mercy, vowing not to steal again.
