The son of a robbery suspect in Lagos stunned the police,
including journalists, when he confessed that his father was
an armed robber, claiming that the man threatened to kill
him if he exposed him.
Emmanuel Idowu confessed to the police that his father, Isiaka
Idowu, (now at large), was the owner of the arms and ammunition
found in his mini-bus.
They were two pump action guns, two AK 47 rifles, one locally
made pistol, 297 ammunition and six magazines.
Emmanuel, who lives with his father in the Bariga area of
the state, told Daily Sun that his father had escaped, adding
that police arrested him in his place. He, however, wondered
why the iniquities of his father would be visited on him.
The suspect, who is nursing a leg injury he sustained in a
motor accident in 2000, revealed how his father swore to kill
him if he told people about his gun-running and other criminal
acts.
“My father threatened to kill me if I exposed him. The
day I asked him why he was doing such a dirty business, he
threatened to kill me if I asked him such a question again.
He threatened to kill me if I told anybody. I shut up my mouth,”
he said.
He also pointed fingers at his father’s conductor, Sunday
Oduntan, who is also in the police net.
Oduntan, 27, from Ogun State, however, told Daily Sun he was
only a conductor of the mini-bus operated by the fleeing Idowu.
He denied any knowledge of guns in the vehicle until policemen
from Shomolu Division intercepted them during stop-and-search.
“As we entered the bus, I was just trying to carry out
some minor repairs in the car, I did not know that these guns
and ammunition were in it until the police came and arrested
me. Now, the driver, who knows about what he kept in the vehicle,
has run away,” he lamented.
