Customs operatives attached to the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘C’ have impounded some vehicles that were conveying some contraband goods from a neighbouring country into Nigeria.

Some of the impounded vehicles were said to belong to the local, state and federal governments, Flourmills Limited, a popular transport company and a pick-up van belonging to one of the newspaper companies.
The prohibited items included textile materials, furniture, tyres, poultry products and apples.

It was also discovered that some of the contraband items were concealed in dutiable goods while they made under payments on dutiable goods like truck.

Expressing disappointment over the type of vehicles and trucks involved in the aiding of smuggling of contrabands into the country, the Customs Area Comptroller, Zone ‘C,’ Mr. Hussein Kangiwa, said despite his regular meetings with luxury bus operators, they still use their buses to convey contraband goods.

He, therefore, implored his men and officers not to be intimidated by smugglers and to continue to impound any vehicle suspected to be carrying contraband goods.
“I said before that we have adopted a new strategy of combating smuggling in the zone this year and that is why I tagged this year, ‘No mercy’ for the smugglers,” he added.
He explained that the priority of the zone was to combat smuggling in all its ramifications
