A 30-year-old Mechanical Engineer, Julius Osahun, is now
in the net of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking
in Persons (NAPTIP) for failing to bring his libido under
control.
The suspect was alleged to have impregnated an underaged prostitute
(names withheld) rescued from Pleasure Hotel, located in the
Ile-Epo area of Egbeda in 2007 by NAPTIP, and who has since
been under the agency’s care.
Also in the NAPTIP net was a nurse, Abidoya-Adebayo Titilayo,
who tried to procure an abortion for the under-aged girl.
Daily Sun gathered that after she was rescued, NAPTIP dragged
the proprietor of the hotel and the woman who brought the
victim to Lagos, for prostitution to Ikeja High Court. The
matter is still in court.
In order to restore hope to the girl, NAPTIP decided to rehabilitate
her by sending her to school where she is currently in SS
III.
Since the agency does not have enough quarters where victims
are sheltered, Daily Sun was told that it sought the assistance
of a partner NGO in Lagos, which provided shelter for the
victim. NAPTIP, among others, was responsible for paying her
school fees.
It was also gathered that while the victim was at the Pleasure
Hotel, Osahun was one of her numerous clients. After her rescue
and rehabilitation, Osahun, a graduate of Auchi Polytechnic,
tried to locate her but it was a difficult task for him at
the initial stage.
The suspect said he was happy when the girl called on phone
to inform him of where she was being rehabilitated and they
continued their love where they stopped.
“She was the one that called me on phone when we lost
contact. I started visiting her. She is my girlfriend. We
were going out last year before we lost contact after NAPTIP
rescued her and we later met in January. She was the one that
called me on phone to meet her. I didn’t go there and
she called me again four days after.
“I started visiting her. I took her out and we had sex
three times. The first time, I used condom and didn’t
use it the subsequently,” he told Daily Sun.
When the girl told him she was pregnant, Osahun, a native
of Uronigbe in Orghowon Local Government Area of Edo State,
allegedly gave her N4,000 to procure an abortion.
Osahun, however, denied the allegation. He said: “She
took that decision on her own. I didn’t give her any
money.”
The nurse was allegedly given N2,000 to buy some drugs and
to give her some injection to terminate the pregnancy.
Meanwhile, NAPTIP has expressed surprise that despite the
alleged offence, Osahun has been using a police corporal to
harass operatives of the agency.
Confirming the incident, the zonal head of NAPTIP, Mr. Godwin
Morka, said the suspects would appear in court soon. He said
the agency and the partner- NGO would continue to take care
of the victim as her father, a stroke patient, doesn’t
have the means to meet her needs.
