Nigerians can now buy goods from the United Kingdom and Europe from the comfort of their rooms or office. A pre-paid electronic system called GlobalDosh (GD) specially designed for purchase on any website has made its debut in Nigeria.
GlobalDosh pre-paid payment system is a real time on-line transaction system for countries with low to zero debit and credit penetration and for minor and underage shopping, globally.
The system works by presenting a way to convert physical cash into cyberspace where it can be used for purchasing products and services on-line. Money is converted by the use of pre-paid voucher which, when uploaded onto GlobalDosh virtual account, can be used to purchase on any website on the Internet.
To use the system, Kunle Adeniyi, Director of Operations of the company in Nigeria, said a user is registered on the GlobalDosh website by filling an on-line form and an account number would be generated and e-mailed to the user immediately on submission.
He explained that a registered member could, with a valid account number top-up his account by purchasing a valid voucher. “The voucher’s blanked-off pin-number panel is then scratched off to present a pin-number that could then be entered on the GlobalDosh’s members’ site for upload,””he added.
According to him, GlobalDosh users can either shop directly with GD-accredited e-merchants that sell directly to the public, or via GlobaDosh-accredited e-merchants that provide avenues for shopping on 3rd party websites that are not currently accredited by GlobalDosh but are popular with e-shoppers.
In the light of the unreliability of the local delivery system, Adeniyi said GlobalDosh has made arrangements with all its accredited e-merchants to deliver all the Nigeria-bound goods to a point in London, for forwarding by a courier to a point in Lagos. He assured that the total delivery period is seven working days.
