Recently, Police College in Katsina had every cause to roll
out drums to celebrate its success story. The import of the
celebration can be better appreciated if one looks at the
different prizes won months back by the college’s pupils,
head teacher and the institution itself.
The Head teacher of the school, Malam M.B Hassan, in November
2007, at the annual conference of (police) force education
officers, commandants, command education officer and head
teachers held in Owerri, Imo State, received the best head
teacher award of police children schools in the federation.
Barely two months after he shared Africa Role Model Leadership
Gold award with two professors, the former first ladies of
two states.
The prize prompted by his selfless service to humanity through
enviable leadership style was bestowed on him and others by
Africa International News magazine at Nicon Hilton Hotel Abuja.
The college first notable prize which arguably came as result
of his leadership was the election of his pupil, Suleiman
Ahmad, in July 2007 as the Speaker of children parliament
of Katsina State.
To the parents, guardians stakeholders and well-wishers of
the pupils and staff of the college, the feat of the college
under its pioneer Head teacher, Malam M.B Hassan, would remain
indelible in the months, if not, years ahead.
M.B., as he is fondly called, is a school head with a difference.
Call him an achiever, and you would be striking the right
cord.
Speaking on the occasion to mark the feat of the Head teacher,
the head of North West Zonal Inspectorate of the police, Mr.
Ojiogu, said he foresaw the "school as a flourishing
gathering in the middle of the desert".
"We are celebrating the performance of an achiever",
he declared.
He thanked the teachers, parents and guardians of the school
for contributing to the achievement of M.B Hassan.
While charging other police colleges to see the honours earned
by M.B.Hassan as a challenge, Malam Bishir Ahmadu, Zonal Inspector
of the force, described the Head teacher as a committed and
dedicated officer.
In his words: "The awards were truly based on merit.
"Commenting on the honours, the Head teacher of police
college, Saulawa, Alhaji Idris Salisu Danmusa, in a good will
message, said he was not surprised over the awards because
of the hard work and dedication of his Katsina counterpart.
"He is hardworking and dedicated. I appreciate his success",
Dan Musa stated.
M.B.Hassan spoke on his awards: "The honours are a favour
from God. They came as a surprise to me. I dedicate them to
my teachers".
He recalled that the African International News magazine sent
nomination letters three times and he rejected them because
he thought they were scam letters.
He paid tribute to the Inspector General of police for giving
him the opportunity to serve in the capacity which earned
him the awards.
The elated Head teacher, who urged other teachers not to rest
on their oars, expressed gratitude to the Parent Teachers
Association (PTA) of the school and the large society for
their contributions.
Earlier, the special guest on the occasion, the Danmadimi
katsina, Alhaji Usman Usman, had said nobody was honoured
unless he deserves to be.
According to him, M.B Hassan had the honours coming with his
diligence and hard work.
The highlights of the occasion were drama sketches and traditional
dances of the school pupils.
