An Abuja property developer, Mr. Dom Egwim, has decried high cost of renting property in Abuja and said the houses are being priced beyond the reach of ordinary working folks.

He said a situation in which residents use up all their yearly earning to pay house rents in the Federal Capital is most unfortunate, pointing out that Nigerians are not only entitled to live in good affordable houses, but also own properties of their own.

Egwim, whose company, Salmars Properties Limited, is embarking on the development of Wisdom Estate at Lugbe, an Abuja settlement on the Airport Road, said the problem of accommodation in the city would be reduced if private developers do not price their property beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians.

He said the Wisdom Estate was his company’s response to the national emergency, and is meant to prove that it is possible for the working class to own decent houses in good locations in the Federal Capital at affordable costs.

“We are poised to assist our fellow Abuja dwellers to own houses of their own in a very conducive and splendid environment in the capital city at a very reduced rate,” Egwim said, adding that the estate is one of the cheapest in the city.

Egwim lamented the recurrent incidence of collapse of houses in the country and traced the problem to incompetence, use of low quality building materials in the construction as well as poor architectural design.
