Anambra State government may have secured an Estate Development
loan of N500 million for the state's National Housing Fund
Intervention Scheme recently flagged off by Governor Peter
Obi in May, 2007.
The Managing Director of the State Housing Development Corporation,
Arc. Mike Nwafor who disclosed this recently when the governor
commissioned the headquarters of the Housing Development Corporation,
saying the corporation operated from a rented apartment since
1991.
He said the corporation would use the amount to aggressively
purse the development of housing at Mgbakwu, Ngozika and Amansea
Estates, Liberation Estate Nawfia/Enugu Agidi.
He thanked the governor for his commitment to housing, adding:
“It is with utmost sincerity that I observe that the
commissioning and dedication of this complex today marks the
beginning of a new housing development corporation for Anambra
State .” He said the corporation would double its efforts
towards the realisation of the housing target of Obi in the
spirit of Anambra Integrated Development Strategy.
Arc. Nwafor said that Governor Obi had turned the corporation
from unproductivity to productivity and pledged for increased
productivity.
Chairman of Anambra State House Committee in Housing, Mr.
J.C. Okeke commended Governor Obi for building a befitting
headquarters for the corporation since the creation of the
state. He said that by starting and completing the house,
Obi had moved away from the culture of abandonment of projects.
Commissioning the project, Governor Obi attributed the successful
completion of the headquarters of Anambra State Housing Development
Corporation to the faithfulness of his administration to the
State Integrated Development Programme.
The governor said he was disappointed on becoming the governor
to be told that the corporation operated from a rented apartment
since the creation of the state and wondered how it would
win people and institution’s confidence as a corporation
saddled with the provision of mass housing. “With this
discovery, I immediately resolved that the corporation will
build its own house.”
Speaking at the occasion, the Speaker of Anambra State House
of Assembly, Hon. Anayo Nebe said that the people of the state
were impressed by the manner the governor was building some
structures in the state, almost from scratch due to the failure
to provide them in the past. He assured of the support of
the House in the task of rebuilding the state.
