After having three girls in succession, naturopathic doctor, Dr Sandra Ekwunife, travelled to Indonesia for a six-month course on baby sex selection.

When she came back, she told Daily Sun, in October 2005, that she would have a set of twins or triplets, both boys.

Does sperm quality or quantity determine the sex of a baby?
Oh yes! Normally, a man has XY chromosome, while woman has a double XX. Now, when the man donates an X, the baby is a female but if he donates Y, the baby is a male. But that is just elementary gender determinant. Studies have shown that there are numerous other factors that can affect the gender determination. These factors emanate from the man as well as the woman.
In the man, there is a rare condition called the Klinefelters syndrome. It’s a genetic problem in which the man has an additional X chromosomes (XXY instead of XY).

This results in little or no sperm production and even when the man manages to impregnate his wife, she will have only females. Even if he marries 10 wives, they will all have females. This is a genetical problem and cannot be corrected. Also, there is another situation in some men, in which the man’s Y chromosome is missing some genetic material called Y micro-deletion. It will also affect his ability to produce sperm and when he does, his wife will produce females. So, you can see why I called the normal XX and XY chromosome theory – elementary sience. We still have much to learn. The woman side of the theory is still that of acidity and alkalinity.

What about you? How did you achieve your babies’ sex pre-selection and the twin thing – two boys?
It started with seven whole years of childlessness. Then followed by his precious gifts of beautiful baby girls. When I had the first – it was a miracle. The second, a big relief that the first wasn’t a mistake and then when the third girl came, tongues started wagging. Even people who knew nothing about medicine started teaching me the art of baby pre-selection. In all that, I remained grateful to God. I remained focused. In fact, it got so bad that my detractors started mocking me – like physician, heal thyself. Then, my investigation started. I travelled all the way to Indonesia for a six-month course. When I came back, armed with all the knowledge that I required, I still had to listen to God. He is omniscient you know. Remember that in Daily Sun interview in October or November 2005, I predicted that I’d have a set of twins or triplets, all boys.
