2011: Year of National Health Bill controversy, medical breakthroughs

The National Health Bill passed by the 6th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and awaiting presidential assent has generated a lot of controversy in the sector.

Apart from medical doctors, every other professional group in the sector, like pharmacists, laboratory scientists, etc., urged the President Goodluck Jonathan not to assent to the bill. Some Christian denominations also kicked against the bill because of the inclusion of stem cell transplantation.
