Kiss & Tell index
  • Sometimes the unbelievable happens. The case of Mrs. Agnes Udeagbala, who beyond anybody’s wildest dreams, gave birth to twins, triplets and quadruplets in successive pregnancies is one of such outstanding occurrences of nature. It is a feat and phenomenon that should earn her a place in the Guiness Book of World Records.

    Background:
Mrs. Udeagbala is from Umudim in Nnewi, Anambra State. That same Nnewi is her place of birth, just another area of the town called Uruagu. It was on August 28, 1968 that she got married to Samuel Udeagbala, a man she described as a psssionate lover of his family.
On the day they got married, they received prayers of having children like every other new couples. But at last their case in childbirth became peculiar, and would remain one of the most outstanding occurrences in childbirth.

    A rare gift
I know that’s why you came (she laughs). Yes, I had something that is exceptional. God gave me something that is rare. Even now I still can’t get it out of my system.
My first pregnancy was single, the second twins, the third triplets, the fourth single and the fifth quadruplets. I didn’t know I was going to have them. Taking care of them wasn’t easy, but I thank God for everything and I also thank my uncle, who helped with their feeding.
People really helped because there was a lot of charity. I was the first woman in Nnewi to experience such thing. As a result, people trooped to my house to see for themselves because it seemed unreal, and as they came, they brought gifts and assisted one way or the other in taking care of gthe babies.

    Beyond expectation
I never knew the number of babies I carried in each pregnancy until at the point of birth. The access to scan was not common then, not to talk of a machine to know what sex the babies belong. I didn’t have any feeling and the pregnancies were successful and I had them through normal delivery. As a matter of fact, I was on my way to my business when most of the labour started”, she smiled. She was to say later that when the quadruplets came out, the doctor and nurses ran away because they never saw such thing before.

    Sad moments
Yes, I have had my own share of unhappiness. I remember when one of the triplets died and later two of the quadruplets died too and I felt well they don’t want to stay but I thank God for everything.
God has been faithful to me. I am healthy, robust and happy. My children are all doing well, and all in all, I have six girls and two boys, five grandchildren. In fact, I am fulfilled and what more do I ask for.
