The Ocean view restaurant, Lagos, recently played host to Delta State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, state commissioners, top government functionaries and media practitioners at the re-launch and media presentation of a newly repackaged state owned newspaper, POINTER.

In his address, the governor who regarded the event as one of the most auspicious assignments in the annals of his administration recalled that when he was elected governor , he had promised to abide by a three-point agenda, spanning peace, security, infrastructure development and human capital development.

As such, the repackaging of the newspaper is the summation of his three broad objectives. According to him, development theorists all over the world have long come to see the need for a vibrant media spectrum to drive particularly, the mass mobilization component of peace and security as well as the development process.

“This has indeed come to be a given imperative in our modern world scenario where, thanks to the influx of new and continually advancing technologies, distances are collapsing and hitherto disparate spaces are being bridged. The mass media as a proud player in this unfolding process has therefore, come to take a more significant place of influence and it is my desire to further strengthen this,” Governor Uduaghan said.

He told journalists that he is now working out modalities for revamping the state government owned media organizations. A 14-man Committee was set-up to recommend appropriate measures for revitalizing the state owned Pointer Newspaper and the Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba and Warri. It is in building on this also that the re-designed and repackaged Pointer Newspaper was presented to the public as a take-off point in the drive to revive the state media organizations. The repackaged Pointer Newspaper will start with a Sunday Edition.
According to the governor, the new product would grace the newsstands across the country weekly within a month of the official re-launch.
