The Assistant Director of the National Drug Law Enfrorcement Agency (NDLEA) Mr. Fatai Olarenwaju was recently ordained a pastor at the church where he worships. He talks about this new assignment and how he came to have a relationship with God.

My relationship with God
This is a secret I share with only the people I love. The secret of whatever I am today is God. I remember specifically what made me to go into a relationship with God. Though I was a Christian at that time, I only went to church, prayed and I believed in God.

In 1996, a friend challenged me to go to the Winners Chapel (Oyedepo’s church) and listen to the word from the man of God, and make sure I practiced it. He added that if after three months I didn’t get a change, I should leave. I started attending the church and before I knew it I started attending weekly programmes too and truly there was a change. That was how my relationship with God started.

Being a Christian
Being a Christian is the easiest thing to do. Just acknowledge the supremacy of God over you. In Christendom, where we say God does not praise Himself, we are to praise Him. He will give you mercy when you praise Him; you must first have Christ in your life and believe that his name is the name above all names.

Occult activities in church
Just as we live in a society where people do things that are out of the constitution, there are some people who do things that are not part of the teachings of the Bible. Jesus said, “beware of the wolf in sheep clothing.” He was talking about some of the things that will happen in the world. If anybody says he saw people practicing it in the church, it is not strange, what we should do is not join in it, it is a sacrilege.

No trousers in Redeem church
I saw it on the pages of papers, but I have not really gone through it. I don’t know why the man of God pronounced it, but I want to believe he pronounced it because of those that put on clothes that do not speak well about a child of God. Because of the liberty we have in the country, ladies dress anyhow.
Today, you see a young lady going to the house of God and she dresses to expose all of her feminine endowment. Even at the Lagos Business School where I take lectures, it is not allowed for a lady to dress that way let alone in the house of God.

Miracles/vision and God’s voice
Miracles happen everyday and everywhere. It is one of the least things God does. There are certain miracles that go unnoticed because we don’t pay attention, the only time we pay attention or celebrate a miracle is when we are in an environment where we are expecting one and it happens. If I have ever heard from God, it was when I was in Zamfara. I woke up one mid-night and a voice told me, ‘since you don’t want to follow my will, I will take you to the grounds and bring you up so that you will know that I am the Lord.”

God speaks to all of us either through our conscience or we hear the voice. One of the two voices you hear when you want to do something good or bad belongs to God. He tells you to do the right thing. He also talks to us through people. Everyone can hear from God, you just have to position yourself to hear from Him.

Being born again
It is not a one-time affair; it can be done over and over again. I became born again at Reverend Tunde Joda’s church (Word of Faith) Ijora, Lagos. I heard the word of God and know that the life style I was living then was not the right life. Then I was just a church goer. I was hanging out with friends. I drank and flirted. We did not get involved in evil activities, but when I answered the call of God whenever I wanted to do anything like that my conscience pricks me.

The last day
That is the day Jesus will come and take those who have done his will home. At the beginning, God made everything beautiful until sin came into the world. Then the devil came and deceived man, and when man fell, sin started coming into the world. There is need for us to reconcile with God, that is why God has to take us back to Him, that was the coming of Jesus.

Heaven
Heaven is the eternity we are talking about. It is not a place up there or down here, but a situation where God will be in fellowship with his own people, no death, or suffering. Hell is where all those things that are not of God will be removed and made to face judgment.
