It is no longer news that driven by the ambition to lead,
or, at least, be among the leaders, Asian auto makers have
been putting everything into making vehicles that stir the
market in various segments across the world.
For instance, about five years ago, Toyota embarked on a mission
to Take The Lead which was driven by the philosophy of Good
Thinking, Good Product. As they have successfully deployed
vehicles that the new “thinking” produced, to
various markets, Toyota is today the global industry leader.
Recently, the Japanese auto maker announced first quarter
sales figure that was higher than that of General Motors,
the hitherto pack leader. With sales that were higher than
those of the American company by about 90,000 units, Toyota
became the number one.
Hyundai and Kia, both Koreans, share the ambition of being
among the front-running auto manufacturers in the world in
the next few years.
That leaves us with Nissan, among the Asian vehicle manufacturers
with tall ambition. In 1999, Nissan and French Renault went
into an alliance aimed at making customers recognize them
as being in the bracket of the best three automotive groups;
placing them among best three in key technologies (each partner
being a leader in specific domains of excellence); and generating
volume of profit that would place them among top three automotive
groups in the world.
Nissan has since followed up with Shift, a one-word philosophical
expression which defines the unique course the brand is charting
for itself. According to the management, Shift is single word
that captures the passion and commitment that have revived
Nissan, and that drives the company’s future.
“Our job is to create value, and we believe great products
define a great carmaker. Everything we touch, we shift. And
everything we shift, we try to make better and uniquely Nissan”.
This is evident in the new and refined products Nissan has
rolled out since the Shift, and they include Tiida, Primera,
Altima, X-Trail, Murano, Patrol, Pathfinder, Terrano, Urvan
and Civilian. But, no vehicle has benefited from the paradigm
shift in auto manufacture than the new look Sunny.
Truly, the new Sunny Alliance Autos (a member of the CFAO
group) unveiled recently when its ultra-modern complex (showroom,
workshop, etc) was commissioned, symbolized this “pure
and uncompromising Shift from the ordinary”.
The new Sunny is enjoying the advantages of being one of the
most popular vehicles ever made by Nissan and being a beneficiary
of the drive towards being among the best in the quality and
value of its vehicles, hence the breath-taking exterior beauty
and alluring interior ambience. Its fresh, bold facial identity
derives from the front styling, which slices through the air
with aerodynamic feel.
Sunny is powered by a 1.5 litre engine which features the
continuous value timing control (CVTC). This technology optimizes
the opening and closing of the intake value in accordance
with vehicle operating conditions (load, engine, rpm, etc)
to improve intake efficiency and torque at low-to mid-speed
as well as output at high speed.
