When the 10th Abuja International Auto Show opens on Wednesday, May 14, no fewer than 50 participants will be exhibiting sundry automotive products and related services at the Eagle Square venue. Out of this number, at least 10 of them will be flaunting Chinese brands of vehicles.

Disclosing this at a press briefing in Lagos, the managing director of BKG Limited (the firm that organizes the annual fair), Mr. Ifeanyi Agwu, informed the motoring Press that the fair was being packaged in a special way to make it a befitting 10th anniversary edition.

He said that the 10th anniversary edition would be bigger than any previous one, especially last year’s which was attended by about 36 auto firms, adding that many events and side attractions have been integrated into the programme to make the “milestone” grand.

Agwu said at the briefing: “We are ready to roll. Every arrangement is being put in place. We have reached out to thousands of people and the response is very encouraging. This year’s show is special because it is going to mark the 10th anniversary. In anything, the 10th anniversary is a milestone…A lot of attractions have been line up to celebrate it”

According to him, two salient features will be noticeable this year; one being the expansion of the scope of the fair through the involvement of all state transport companies and the presence of some governors who are expected to exploit the participation of many auto companies to discuss partnership deals that would lead to the development of transportation in their areas.

“The invited governors will use the fair to meet with participants to explore the opportunities of opening outlets in their states, so that activities in the sector will permeate other parts of the country’s market, aside Lagos and Abuja,” the BKG managing director said.

One of the high points of the fair which will run from May 14 to 22 at the usual venue, Eagle Square, will be awards and recognition for “participants who have contributed to the growth of the annual exhibition over the years”.

Emphasizing that Abuja International Motor Fair is an exhibition for the entire Nigerian market, and not an Abuja affair, Agwu said, “as usual, we are intensifying one-on-one contact with more than 25,000 potential visitors from agencies, parastatals, diplomatic corps and many others, to come to see the fair”. The targets are spread across the country.
