Three heroic policemen were killed in Lagos early yesterday, shortly after a fierce battle that claimed the lives of three car-snatching-armed robbers.

Following a distress call, a team of anti-robbery policemen had gone after the bandits, who snatched a golden-coloured pilot Jeep marked HB 02 ABJ, in the Alausa area and were escaping towards the Onikan area.

The anti-robbery team engaged the bandits in fierce gun-battle from Onikan and pursued them towards the Apongbon-Apapa-Ojo axis.

Daily Sun learnt that the escaping robbers opened fire on policemen at a pin-down point at Onikan and killed three of the cops, but the police eventually caught up with the gang, killed three of the bandits and arrested one.

The police identified arms recovered from the robbers as Kalashnikov model. The surviving member of the gang was taken to the police headquarters in Ikeja, as the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) Panti began to make further investigations yesterday.
Owners of the Jeep, now parked at the Ojo Police Station spoke with Daily Sun yesterday praising the police for their rapid response.
