The peace and security agenda of the Delta State Government,
on Sunday am suffered a hitch as five stern-looking militants
in a commando style, abducted the father of the Secretary
to the State Government, (SSG), Chief Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa
at his country home, Boji-Boji Owa, in the Ika North East
Local Government of area of the State.
The SSG’s father, Chief Okowa was said to have been
kidnapped at his residence after returning from Church.
Daily Sun gathered that the 75-year-old man was at home with
a little boy when the abductors came , arrested the little
boy, tied and locked him up in one of the rooms in the house
before they (the kidnappers) took the old man away at about
11am.
Chief Okowa was said to have been driven away by his kidnappers
in his own private Kia car sandwiched between two of the kidnappers
at the back seat while the remaining two, occupied the front
seat as they drove away.
It was further gathered that the old man’s cell phone
was said to have been switched off even as his whereabouts
still remain a mystery.
When Daily Sun called at the Boji Boji residence of the SSG,
sympathizers were seen standing and talking in low tones,
while some others were seen either wailing, shock and discussing
in a hush tone.
A neighbour who pleaded anonymity confided that the unknown
men came at about 11a.m, walked into his living room, while
one of them mounted surveillance outside.
When Daily Sun contacted the SSG for his comment, he was not
available but his personal assistant only said, “see
me later.”
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho and his Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Charles Muka could also not
be reached. The commissioner’s phone rang without any
one picking it even as a police source in the state’s
command Headquarters confirmed they had received the signal.
As at the time of filing in this report, it was gathered from
a family close source that the kidnappers had given a three
day ultimatum during which the sum of N500,000,000. ransom
must be paid.
Daily Sun gathered that the Kia vehicle in which the old man
was driven away was later discovered at Igbanke, Edo state,
at about 5. 30p.m. yesterday.
