Foremost legal practitioner and Human Right activist, Chief
Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), has thanked Nigerians for their prayers
for recovery from terminal disease.
Fawehinmi returned to the country on Saturday from London
where he had been taking medical treatment for lung cancer.
The fiery lawyer, who said he was home on a medically advised
break in his treatmen,t said he would be staying in the country
for a while before going back to resume his treatment.
The two-page statement entitled, Appreciation and Gratitude,
which Chief Fawehinmi personally signed read:
“I want to thank Nigerians of all walks and cadres of
life, from the poor to the rich, from the underdog to the
privileged, from Muslims and Christians to pagans, for their
unique celebration of my 70th birthday in my absence, and
their prayers for recovery from this terminal disease.
“I specially appreciate the wonderful role played by
the press – both print and electronic media –
for their support through the publication of various tributes,
messages, editorials, articles, lectures, etc, etc.
“With the remaining time left for me in the world, I
will treasure these unusual, wonderful and unprecedented outpouring
of love, support and kindness from my fellow country men and
women. I will continue to battle this deadly disease of lung
cancer despite the pain and pangs it entails, with determination
and courage that I can muster.
I believe that with the prayers and support of Nigerians and,
of course, God’s intervention, the best will be achieved.
“I thank everybody and may God Almighty bless everyone,”
Chief Fawehinmi said.
