As the noose by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) tightens up on bank debtors, the Group Managing Director of Global Fleet, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim has promised to offset his indebtedness to Oceanic Bank today.

He said as international businessman he had to offset the indebtedness of his companies based on the figures presented to him by his bank.

According to the business mogul, he would make the payment at the bank’s headquarters in Lagos today.
Jimoh, who stated that his indebtedness to the Oceanic Bank plc was to the tune of N8 billion also threatened to go to court if CBN failed to retract the publication where he was said to have owed Oceanic Bank International Plc N14.782 billion but which he claimed was only N8 billion and that the loan was performing.

According to the business mogul, he will make the payment in foreign and local currencies to a total sum of N8 billion at the corporate headquarters of the Oceanic Bank Plc in Lagos on Monday August 24, 2009.

“His decision to make the fulfillment was part of the decisions reached at the end of the meeting of the management of his companies in Lagos,” a statement from the Economic Confidential said.
Jimoh, however, condemned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for being hasty in the release of debtors list, adding that no business could survive without bank loan.

While also demanding apology from the apex bank and a retraction of the libelous list of debtors, Ibrahim disclosed that he had no ill-feeling against CBN.
