Team Nigeria, Tuesday suffered a major set back after it was discovered that one of the three male sprinters, Tamunosiki Atorudibo would be unfit for action in the Athens 2004 Olympics.

Atorudibo, whose name was entered alongside Uchenna Emedolu and Deji Aliu for the 100m event, was discovered to be nursing a serious injury which he had kept from the officials.
This will therefore prevent him from participating in the 100m event.

Unfortunately, the revelation came too late for the Nigerian athletic officials who could not replace his name with that of Olusoji Fasugba who has been on standby.

Atorudibo was one of the favourites in the Nigerian team after he won Olympic trials during the Mobil Track and Field Championship in Abuja with a time of 10.08 sec.

Reports of his injury, which was suspected to have occurred during the African championships in Congo last month, came as a rude shock to the Nigerian contingent in Athens.

In the 4 x 100m where the sprinter would have also featured, his name has been replaced with that of Fasugba.
Nigeria now has only two athletes in the male 100m, which heat events begins on Wednesday.
