Brazil coach Rene Simoes says his girls were the better team and deserved to win the Olympic women's soccer gold medal they lost to the USA.

"Brazil today was better and deserved to win," Simoes said at the post match press conference. "However, we have to congratulate the USA on winning. The real winners were the spectators who watched a great game of football."

Simoes was however pleased with the silver medal he and his wards are taking back to South America.
"The medal is a dream come true for us. Brazil has a really wonderful future and I hope that these girls will be given the opportunity to put their skills and talents on display again soon."

US coach April Heindrichs admitted how fortunate her side was to edge the Brazilians.
"This final was a brilliant display of passion and creativity," she said. "My compliments to the Brazil team for making the gold medal match the best final I have ever been to."
And she gave credit to her senior brigade. "We may be the oldest team in the tournament, but our experience brought s this achievement. What ties this team together is their belief in each other."
