Perhaps without her generous front yard, actress Cossy Orjiako
would probably be a casual actress in Nollywood, incapable
of causing traffic jam. But pray, her huge pair of mammary
glands and the audacious manner with which she displays them,
instantly earned her a reputation that could make a Brigade
of Guards miss steps.
Down to earth, unpretentious and blunt. That is Cossy Orjiako.
And so, she transformed the mannerism to an acting career
that soon earned her notoriety, nay fame.
In Nollywood, Cossy became an instant success as her name
was being bandied as one that could play any movie role. Any
role?
Pronto, movie producers came rushing her with scripts that
focused more on her booby endowment. On her part, Cossy did
not disappoint, as she flaunted the fully loaded front view
before producers’ cameras.
From her role in The Only Nigerian Girl, Outkast Itohan, and
Fuji Gyration, Cossy proved that she was indeed queen of the
divas.
However, she went over the hills with her boob-baring acts
in the musical videos featuring two Fuji acts.
While some cheered her for “being her self”, more
condemned her for belittling womanhood. In fact, the latter
argued that a woman’s boobs are her sacred, private
property, not for public mockery.
As the saying goes, everything that has a beginning must have
an end, the good days seem over for the Anambra-born actress.
Now, Cossy has overdrawn her accounts with the movie-viewing
public, as she had to be labeled bad girl of the Nigerian
movie industry. She was to find out how bad things were when
the producers who had prodded her on started withdrawing.
Any regrets?
Cossy, without saying exactly so, insists that the producers
were responsible for the bad image she got.
“I came into the industry with an open mind which is
to be able to fit into any role given to me as long as it
is acting and the pay is good. But, unfortunately, the Nigerian
movie directors are not helping matters. They are supposed
to be good leaders.
But they misuse the opportunity and sometimes mislead you.
Every human being has minutes of madness. Probably it was
during my own five minutes of madness that I did most of the
thing s I did. And normally those offensive aspects were supposed
to be edited out if the directors and the producers were good.
But rather than do that, they capitalized on it. Imagine if
I were to be their sister, won’t they try to protect
certain things about me.”
Roles glut
For over one year now, the scripts have dried up in a manner
that raises suspicion: Is there a deliberate conspiracy to
keep her out of the screen? Producers have refused to use
her in their jobs.
“The reason I have not done any work recently is because
the producers are scared in using me in their videos.
The Censors Board banned almost all the movies I did then.
You can imagine all the films that I featured in were not
released and the producers were suspended. This made them
to run into huge losses. So which producer will want to use
me again? Anyway, thank God I am not one of those that were
banned, so I am into my own production, which I will take
to the Censors Board when it is ready. And I hope I will be
given approval.”
New image for herself
Cossy is however not sulking over any spilled milk. She is
on the path to carving a new image for herself. She now has
a new set of photographs, which she claims paints her ‘true
picture’.
Though the new photographs do not portray her as a nun, they
constitute a far cry from those salaciously daring booby displays
she naively paraded as photographs.
According to Cossy, her problem with the public was the result
of the misrepresentation of her true self. “I do not
have any new image. The new pictures that you are talking
about represent the real me. I have always been like that.
“The problem is that people do not really know me. There
was a film I did in which I played the role of a Church leader.
Why were those pictures not given to the public? I have always
been a clean and disciplined girl, but that is the aspect
of me that people don’t know about. As a matter of principle,
I don’t date or go out with anybody in the industry.”
Another aspect of her new image, perhaps, is the repackaging
of her boobs. Before now, there was no missing the huge boobs,
what some boob buffs described as “abundant blessings”.
Today, Cossy could pass by without as much as cause a booby
stir.
Repackaged boobs
Did she do boobs reduction? Answer: “No”. The
secret, she confessed, was the packaging. “Oftentimes,
when I come across people, they look at me with this surprise
in their eyes. Some even ask if I am Cossy because I look
different from what they used to see.
“The impression people get about me has to do with the
zooming of the cameras on my boobs. Perhaps a that time what’s
on the camera man’s mind are my boobs, so zooms in to
make them look bigger so that people will say ‘wao!’
“I have learnt not to allow such things bother me. I
have not done any boobs reduction. Everything is all about
packaging. It all depends on what you wear under and how you
want to look.”
Suitors knocking?
It may seem that the main reason Cossy is seeking a new image
is her decision to settle down this year. Though she failed
to either name the Mr. Right or the time, she revealed that
plans were underway for her to say ‘I do’ any
time from now.
“I am ready for marriage, but wait till it is ripe.
Anytime from now I’ll invite you guys.”
But Sunday Sun learnt that there is this guy called Debo.
So who is he? “I cannot tell you that it is Debo. As
a matter of fact, what if I tell you that Debo and I are no
longer together. Just wait and see,” Cossy said.
Mischievious producers
Cossy, however, agreed that she made some mistakes in the
past, which were not good for her image. Expectedly, she said
she has learnt some lessons from her experience.
“I cannot do some of the things I did in the past any
more. Not with the kind of directors we have in Nigeria. Honestly
I am considering going abroad to continue my career because
over there the best can always be brought out of you.
“Imagine during one of my productions, a guy came from
behind and grabbed me and I shoved him off immediately. Would
you believe that when the video was aired they highlighted
that part that he grabbed me from behind several times? The
people that I have worked with in the past have not been cooperative,
and for me I have learnt my lessons. I am now wiser and I
can never do those things again.”
Porno movies and I
At the height of her reign as queen of the divas, there were
rumours of Cossy staring in pornographic movies. But she denied
having done any such thing. With a degree in Accounting and
a Masters degree in Administration, Cossy said she is too
classy to delve into prostitution. The rumours, according
to her, were the handiwork of people who want to put her down.
“I can never act in a blue film because I am just too
classy for that. I have heard several rumours about me acting
blue films, which I believe, is ridiculous.
“I cannot even think about that. People who are always
looking for something to say go about town telling others
that I act blue films. They even go as far as putting my musical
pictures in foreign blue films. People who want to see me
naked should have better things to think about than trying
to see me naked. I have a Masters degree in Management from
the best of schools. There are people out with complex problem
and their only stock in trade is to bring you down once they
believe you are doing better. I do not let such things bother
me.”
When one door closes
With the acting jobs no longer coming, Cossy now does business
that is even more rewarding. To cap her efforts in business,
Cossy is currently developing a property in Lekki, a choice
Ocean view in Lagos.
“Yes, I have a property in Lekki. It is a testimony
to my struggles and ability. I have had to deny myself certain
things to make it to this point. Construction on the property
has progressed. By the grace of God, it will be completed
soon.”
