After series of arm robbery attacks, Nigerian artistes say
they are tired of the level of insecurity in the country.
One of the ways they chose to vent their frustration is through
solidarity march, which they staged last Monday.
The protest march was called by, guess who? - Nigeria’s
most successful musical export - 2Face Idibia - who has perhaps
suffered the greatest number of hoodlum attacks.
Remember he was attacked at his FESTAC residence about two
years ago and just last year, he was also shot in his jeep
at about 10pm while fiddling with his laptop.
And to crown him as the undisputed king of attacked entertainers,
he lost his Range Rover Jeep to robbers around Ikeja this
year. Unfortunately, traffic held him away from the march.
Others on the march include D’banj, Tee-A, Teju Babyface,
Ego, Wunmi Obe, DJ Tee, Ayo Animashaun, Princess, Jeddi, Joyce
Howie T, and a host of others.
Back to the solidarity march, as early as 8am people who could
be described as members of Nigerian artistes’ supporters
club arrived the take-off point, the Hip Hop World office
at Ogundana Drive, Ikeja. The protest march led them to Governor
Fashola’s office, House of Assembly, and Lagos State
Police Force Headquarter.
In Fashola’s absence, Speaker of the House of Assembly,
Ikuforiji was on hand to welcome the crowd. The Lagos Police
boss, MD Abubakar, as usual, promised the artistes protection,
and advised them to be security conscious.
