A total of 4, 300 persons have been short listed for screening in this year’s edition of the Star lager beer sponsored music talent hunt show, Star Quest.

It should be recalled that the call for entries into the event ended Monday 17, 2008 with a total of 12,628 applications.
Two prominent music producers and multi-instrumentalists are among several judges chosen to screen possible finalists at the regional screenings.

The duo would join Hip Hop World Award Best 2007 Rap artiste, Ruggedman, Nigeria’s female act, Weird MC and premier winners of Star Quest KC Presh to select 36 budding musicians that would make Star Fameland beginning across six regions on Saturday March 22, 2008.

Over 12,000 applications were received and 4,300 have been pre-selected to participate at the regional screenings in Jos, Abuja, Owerri, Benin, Lagos and Enugu. Those short listed would be subjected to further screening at six regional locations. The regional screening exercise begins this weekend at the end of which 36 finalists would emerge to begin their quest at Star Fame land.
This year’s Star Quest is expected to generate a lot of excitement, going by the number of entries that were received.

According to the Senior Brand Manager, Star, Sampson Oloche, the website www.star-nigeria.com came under intense pressure as applicants besieged it within the last few days.
The quest is to create the hottest musical band in Nigeria with the participation of the general public. Entry into the competition is free as usual, but, it is this time limited to individuals, between the ages of 21 and 30 years. Applicants must possess demonstrable proficiency in at least one vital area of music; instrumentation, vocals, or song writing.

As usual, the contestants will form bands on their own from their interaction with each other. Six bands will emerge from this process with each band made up of individuals with different musical skills.
These six bands will be expected to create and produce their own original music on which basis they will be evaluated by the viewing public.

The six bands will contest against each other and 3 bands will be eliminated in the first elimination round. This will be fully broadcast on national television and elimination will be decided by public voting via SMS. The 3 remaining bands will move on to the national final. The final event will be broadcast live on NTA and AIT networks on Saturday, May 1, 2008. The winning band will again be decided 100% by Live public voting via SMS.
