Showbiz personalities are usually regarded as role models
in any society and are seen as those who make people happy
through entertainment.
For ace comedian, Basorge Tariah Junior, it was a fulfilling
experience entertaining students of Reagan Memorial Baptist
Girls Secondary School, Sabo Yaba.
The event was the Cultural and Drama Club day, which held
inside the premises of the school and equally graced by other
celebrities such as Ali Baba, Wazobia radio presenter, Steve
Onu also known as Yaw, among many others.
The occasion featured other activities such as dancing competition
for both JSS and SSS, miming, singing and cultural dance.
The contestants as well as participants were given prizes,
ranging from cash to gift items.
The event which was chaired by Ali Baba also featured a guest
artists, ROC, who thrilled with delight. A well choreographed
dance by Mo Hits’ Pere was presented by Junior mimers
while the Seniors danced to P-square’s Roll it. Also,
Baptist Academy was not left out as a group of four boys from
the school presented a song entitled, All in all and another
number.
Highpoint of the occasion was when the trio of Basorge, Ali
Baba and Yaw mounted the stage and danced to the admiration
of an excited audience who rooted for more.
Tolani Akolade was awarded gifts for being the most committed
executive member while the overall most committed executive
award went to the newly elected president of the club, Ogunubi
Elizabeth.
Tariah who is the patron of the club charged the new excos
to have passion and enthusiasm to run the club in the next
year. He also urged them to learn to serve and develop confidence
and selflessness in themselves.
The Patron who praised Ogunubi described her as a selfless
and promising girl.
In her acceptance speech, Ogunubi, who is in SS2, promised
to keep the flame on and do her best to take the club to the
next level.
Matron of the club, Mrs. Lilian Emen urged the newly elected
executives to be hardworking and emulate their predecessors.
Out going president Colette Atana, who compered the ceremony
told Daily Sun that she had a lot of challenges such as finance,
the reluctance of students to co-operate and having worked
almost round the clock for the success of the event. Her words,
“ I want to thank uncle Barsorge for his immense support.
We thought we couldn’t do it anymore but Barsorge came
to our rescue. I pray that God will continue to bless him
and his family. Now I can say I am fulfilled with the help
of Basorge. It wasn’t easy. I also want to thank my
students who co-operated with me and my excos. My vision is
for the school to reach international level.”
“My prayer for them is to make it in life, if they are
bold and confident, they would be able to face the challenges
of life,” Mrs. Emem added.
For Barsorge who believes in human development, it is another
opportunity to boost the morale of the teenagers.
“ It would help build self confidence in them, bridge
the gap between the young and old. You know when we were growing
up, we were told that being educated alone would give us what
we desire of life but we have long discovered that our natural
talent could be an alternative source of livelihood, you never
can tell
Tariah also urged other artistes to encourage the youths saying,
“ It is not all about making money but also to help
encourage and build up others for the betterment of the society
who in the first place made you.”
Ali Baba- in his own remarks said, “ it’s a way
of encouraging children to discover their hidden talents and
teach them to have confidence in themselves.”
