An upcoming singer, Matthew Onyemaenu, better known as Shoboi has released his debut single, Hero. The dreadlock wearing musician from Anambra State, who attended Federal Government College, Kaduna has promised music lovers of entertainment package.

Onyemaenu who graduated with an upper credit at the Federal University of Technology, Minna having studied Chemical Engineering, recently returned from South Africa where he went to shoot the video of his latest effort.

“ It was an interesting and fascinating experience for me. I worked with the best hands available in South Africa. It was an experience I would want to relive. South Africa boasts lovely people and beautiful locations.”

Explaining to Daily Sun how he began his career, the Anambra State-born singer disclosed that in his first year in the university, he started combining education with dance.
He further hinted that the video for the single, which was shot in Durban and Johannesburg, was shot on 35mm camera.

Asked about the concept behind the name Shoboi, the artiste had this to say; “ My album is about showtime just as my stage name, Shoboi. Showtime means action time and it is all my time.
Shoboi is a very focused person. I know where I am coming from and I also know where I am going to. I cannot afford to be distracted because a lot has gone into this project, time, energy and money.
I am an unpredictable personality when it comes to music. I try to push my ideas without trying to imitate anybody and I do my local stuff with international appeal. I played my music in South Africa and people were in love with it.”

Shoboi has performed in concerts and shows, mostly on campuses outside Lagos, with the likes of MCLOPH, Sino among others. The musician hinted further that he receives inspiration from God and also from things that happen around him including his personal experiences as well as other people’s experiences.

“ Hero is a love song. But beyond love, it captures the essence of what we really are. It brings out the hidden hero in all of us. And the video is going to be on MTV base exclusively for two weeks after which we would start circulating it to other television stations nationwide” Shoboi stated.
The handsome hip-hop act, however, informed that the album comprising 12 tracks would be released later in the year with Bob Marley as his role model because of the depth of his lyrics, and the way he expresses his ideas and beliefs through music.

The artiste said he wishes to realise his dreams of becoming a mega star in the next couple of years. “ Shoboi will have on his shelve, an MTV, KORA or Grammy awards. I also see Shoboi doing collaborations with international artistes in the future,” he said.
