The duo of Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi and Olympic
Marseille of France defender, Taye Taiwo, will lead the Dream
Team IV in the make or mar Olympic Games qualifier against
the Black Meteors of Ghana, coming up on November 17 in Sunyani.
Former Nigeria captain and Under-23 assistant coach, Henry
Nwosu (MON), told SoccerStar during a telephone conversation
that Mikel and Taiwo had both confirmed to be a part of the
squad in Ghana after they were contacted for the match.
“When Mikel and Taiwo came home recently, we discussed
about the game with them and the good thing is that they have
called to reassure they would be available for the match and
might likely fly straight to Ghana from their respective bases
in England and France,” Nwosu disclosed.
“The game will be a tough battle, considering the rivalry
between the two countries even as the outcome will decide
who goes to the Olympics.
“We are not taking anything to chances so we will go
to Ghana with a formidable team. So long as we get the necessary
backing from the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), we are
confident of picking a respectable result. The worst we shall
get is a draw.”
He revealed that Lagos State Governor, Raji Babatunde Fashola,
had shown keen interest in camping the Under-23 in Lagos when
they resume camping in mid-November. “Arrangements with
the football loving Lagos State governor are in the pipeline
to meet with the Under-23 team in Lagos when we resume camp
mid-November. He is my childhood friend and teammate and he
is ever willing to do anything to help my team achieve success,”
the ex-Iwuanyanwu Nationale sweat merchant stated. |
