Ex-Nigerian international, Sylvanus Okpala, has warned against the employment of a foreign technical adviser for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2010 African Nations and World Cups.

The former Enyimba and Rangers International tactician stressed that Amodu had nothing to prove to his critics after delivering the 2002 Korea/Japan and the South Africa 2010 World Cup tickets.

The Nigerian football authorities are divided over the future of the Super Eagles coach, but Okpala believed that sacking Amodu would do more harm than good to Nigerian football.

“Amodu has done well by qualifying the team for the World Cup. He should not only be allowed to take the team to the Nations Cup but to the World Cup as well; even if he doesn’t do well in Angola. It’s important that he goes to the Nations Cup, learn more lessons, correct his mistakes and continue from where he stopped at the World Cup,” Okpala, nicknamed Quicksilver during his playing days, suggested.

He, however, said it would be justified to sack Amodu if he failed to perform at the World Cup in South Africa.
“If the football authorities are not satisfied with his performance, it will be justified to get a new coach to start early preparation for the 2012 African Nations and 2014 World Cups respectively,” he submitted.
