Nigerian captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha is one of the seven players English Premiership side,Wigan Athletics is considering signing for the new season, even as Everton is making a late bid for the mercurial midfielder too, reports Samm Etuk.

If the deal fails to go through, Okocha’s agent might not have settled the monetary matters with the club as that is the only knotty area the parties were still trying to reach agreement on.

Wigan chief executive, Brenda Spencer, who confirmed high profile bids for the club, however, refused to mention the name of the players saying it was the club’s decision not to mention their names until they are through with the negotiations. She said they were at the ‘advance stages’ of discussion with the players concerned.

In a chat with the club’s official website, Spencer said she has learned over the years to be careful when it comes to transfer dealings with players, hence they want to be sure of signing the players first before letting the cat out of the bag.

She said: "I can confirm that we have made a number of substantial bids for high profile players and that two of those bids have been accepted. We are also busy pursuing other targets."

Okocha told africansportsdigest.com recently that he was staying back in the United Kingdom, and wants to continue in the Premiership as his family is happy in England and he would not want to sacrifice his family’s comfort for money especially his children. Some clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia were ready to sign him for the new season.

Everton is said to have sent emissaries to the former Bolton Wanderers captain also, but africansportsdigest.com could not obtain much information about this latest negotiation as at press time, although the interest is described as being serious.
