The national senior men’s team Super Eagles have two more days of intensive training in Nairobi, Kenya before flying out to the Entebbe Airport, Kampala on Thursday morning, 48 hours before their crucial 2008 Nations Cup qualifier against the Cranes of Uganda.

As at Monday evening, only goalkeeper Austin Ejide, defender Taye Taiwo and strikers John Utaka, Ayo Makinwa and Obafemi Martins were being expected in camp. The 1–0 win over Kenya’s Harambee Stars in Sunday’s international friendly at the Moi International Sports Center gave the squad ample confidence ahead of the hunt for three points at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Namboole on June 2.

In camp are goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Bamidele Aiyenugba (who shone against the Harambee Stars), defenders Oguchi Uche, Mutiu Adegoke, Danny Shittu, Obinna Nwaneri, Ifeanyi Onwantu, Olawale Isiaka and Rabiu Afolabi, midfielders Onyekachi Okonkwo, Paul Obiefule and Sani Kaita and strikers Nwankwo Kanu, Kelechi Osunwa, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Chukwuma Akabueze.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) notes that Oluwaseyi Olofinjana, Osaze Odemwingie and Yusuf Ayila have been ruled out by injury, but the situation with John Mikel Obi is unsatisfactory, following failure by the club to release the player to Nigeria for his injury to be ascertained by own doctors. Victor Anichebe of Everton FC of England has also been excused.
