Bitrus Bewarang has been appointed as the new technical adviser
to Premier League side, Nasarawa United, after the team’s
former handler, Ben Duamlong, was fired last season.
Globacom Premier League Splash gathered that about 20 coaches
had applied for the job to handle the Solid Miners, but after
the interview, the club’s management picked the former
Kano Pillars tactician to head the technical crew.
Sources from Nasarawa United revealed that the Plateau-born
coach was picked ahead of others, after the wife of the Plateau
State governor lobbied on his behalf for the plum job.
“As you know, in Nigeria, you can get whatever you want
if you have the right connections, and that was exactly how
Bitrus got the job at Nasarawa United.
“The wife of the Plateau State governor, where he comes
from, talked to the government of Nasarawa State to give him
the job and he got it.
“Another factor, which gave Bewarang the job was the
fact that he’s an experienced coach and the management
of Nasarawa United believe that he could take the club back
to the continent in the new season,” the source added.
The new technical adviser, who was seen at the Ministry of
Youth and Sports in Lafia, as he was going up and down to
ensure he resumed duty last week, confirmed to Sunday Sunsport
that he would resumed duty soon. However, the management of
the club had refused to disclose the financial details of
the contract.
It would be recalled that Nasarawa United, who narrowly escaped
relegation last season, had serious management crisis, with
accusing fingers being pointed at the leadership of Anthony
Yamusa, who was alleged to be incompetent in leading the club
to their desired target.
