Tough-talking clergy, Reverend Moses Iloh, has lampooned Nigerian sports officials for what he called the country’s disgraceful performance at the just ended Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and said the whole country would be blamed for the charade.

Speaking on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos, the embittered former president of Nigeria Cycling Federation, blasted those in authority for the failure.

"This is very unfortunate. But who is to blame? Nigeria! All of us! America has already started to look into why they failed in Beijing, but Nigeria will keep mum and do nothing.

The Olympic Committee will go on a long break, the Sports Commission will be pregnant with confusion until one year to the next Olympics. Our performance is so disgraceful.”
Iloh, who was incensed by the way Nigerians celebrated the Dream Team’s silver medal winning effort in the football event of the Games, said it clearly showed how mediocrity had eaten deep into the citizens’ skin.

“Some people are rejoicing that we got silver in football. For me, that’s nonsense! We should have beaten the Argies to the gold. Must we always be underdogs? Do we know what Nigeria is? The whole world was watching to see us win gold, but our mediocrity beclouded our sense of reasoning. It is unfortunate!" he added.
