Portsmouth’s Chief Executive, Peter Storrie, has admitted to being in the dark over the reason Nwankwo Kanu has yet to sign a new 12-month deal that has been on the table since January.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a thrilling end last season, scoring the semi-final and final goals that sent the FA Cup into the Fratton Park trophy cabinet. Now, according to reports of a statement he allegedly made on Nigerian radio, he is ready to play hard-ball to force a new two-year contract rather than the rolling 12 months for 20 appearance agreement that they have had in place.

"Kanu will be back in training next week when we hope he will sign the contract he has been offered," Storrie was quoted as saying in Portsmouth News.
"In accordance with last year's deal, we have given him another 12 months. At this moment, he has not signed it.

"All talk that he now wants a two-year contract is news to us. I was not aware of that at all. He hasn't spoken to me about it.
"No-one knows whether what he has supposedly said is factual or not
“I will be interested to hear what he has to say when he returns next week.
"As it stands, there is a contract there to be signed. If he wants longer, nothing has been said to me."
