Flying Eagles and Hamburg Hsv of Germany player, Chrisantus
Macaulay, has fully recovered from his injury and is raring
to go for Nigeria in our next duel in the Under-20 Africa
Youth Championship (AYC) qualifier against Sudan.
The player, who limped out of Nigeria’s 2–0 victory
over visiting Junior Lions of Senegal in the African qualifier
in Abeokuta about three weeks ago, sent warning signals to
Flying Eagles’ foes, as he scored two goals on Saturday
in Hamburg’s 6–0 victory against Vfl Pinneberg
in a tune-up game in preparation for the coming German Bundesliga.
“I am happy to tell you that I scored two goals in my
team’s 6–0 win in a friendly match against Pinneberg,
which shows that I am raring to go in our remaining qualifying
matches in the AYC.
“I am now fully fit for our (Flying Eagles’) next
match against Sudan. I felt extremely bad that I couldn’t
conclude our game against Senegal due to injury. I had actually
planned to put in my best in the match to ensure we win with
wide margin if not for the injury I sustained. However, I
was happy when we won.
“I was happier when I received the news that we beat
Senegal 1–0 again on their home ground and have moved
to the next round of the AYC qualifiers.
“I can assure you that I will also contribute my quota
in our matches against Sudan by the special grace of God,”
the Golden Boot winner in the last Under-17 World Cup held
in South Korea disclosed.
The player, who scored the last two goals (5th and 6th) in
the match, could have scored a hat trick against Pinneberg
after rounding the goalkeeper only for the ball to go inches
wide.
His Hamburg coach, Martin Jol, was full of praises for the
gangling striker after the match.
“My coach was very happy after the match. He rated me
as one of the best talented players in the world and encouraged
me to continue in this manner. He told me that the sky would
only be my limit,” an elated Chrisantus disclosed.
The Hamburg team are due to leave for Austria this week for
a weeklong training in preparations for the new German League.
But the player promised to cut short his journey with his
German team if need be to star for the Flying Eagles in Nigeria’s
next qualifying match.
“We are traveling to Austria for a weeklong training,
but I will surely come to Nigeria for the Flying Eagles’
next match,” he promised.
