CAF and FIFA technical committees member, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, has faulted the manner of approach embarked upon by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) in running the round leather game in the country.

Speaking on Tuesday in a no-holds-barred live interview on Brila FM, the Modakeke high chief called for a new direction in the NFA’s focus, as the annual general meeting opens today in Makurdi, Benue State.

“I believe we should concentrate more on development of the game. We should lay more emphasis on development, rather than thinking always about organising competitions.

“That’s the right approach that should be taken, and even the FIFA statutes state as much. The first sentence in the functions section says developing football is more important. The NFA should follow the same line,” the former Super Eagles head coach declared.

Onigbinde, however, refrained from slamming The Glasshouse for corruption in the domestic league, with a view that the scourge pervades all sectors of the Nigerian community, and believes it’s an open secret that officials of the game are not above board.
