There’re strong indications that Guinness Nigeria Plc. may take over the payment of the salaries of the newly appointed Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Amodu Shaibu and his assistants.

Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Chairman, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, divulged this much at the unveiling of Coach Amodu Shiabu and his three assistants, as he disclosed that the soccer ruling body were yet to get the nod from their sponsors, Globacom on the payment of the coaches’ salary.

“As for the sponsorship, Glo had a contract with us and they were to sponsor foreign technical adviser, they did that but now we have Nigerians as our coaches, we have given them appropriate package and information they needed to know about the new arrangement.

“Of course, they are our sponsors and they do not just sponsor the coaches, but also our other programmes. We have been meeting with Glo over the past three weeks, but because of time factor, we have to forged ahead. We have to set the pace, prioritise our programmes and make settlement of the technical crew our priority.

“So, it’s NFA’s responsibility to settle the team and we are sure we will be prompt in their payment. We know that Glo is there now, though they are not sponsoring the coaches yet, but we know we have Guinness around. We have an arrangement with Guinness Plc., but we want to put realities on ground to see whether they can re-align with us and update it,” he stated.

He appealed to the private sector to come to the aid of the NFA, as they have been over relying on government in the funding of football in the country, adding that the NFA will want to meet all its obligations without over burdening government.

Alhaji Lulu also disclosed that the coaches would stay in an hotel for the time being until the NFA secure them a good accommodation as entrenched in their contract, adding that for security reasons, he could not disclosed what the salaries of the coaches were worth.
