Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha, along with the founder of the defunct Leventis United, John Mastoroudes, has been appointed to assist Coach Shaibu Amodu with technical matters in the Super Eagles.

They will also be liaison officers between the Eagles and the Presidential Task Force, of which they are both members.
Okocha, who was recently at the centre of speculations about a possible return to the team as player, has already started his new role as he was on the subs' bench during the 2–2 draw with Tunisia on Sunday.

This was one of the compromises reached between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Presidential Task Force to the 2010 World Cup after both bodies were sharply divided about the fate of Amodu.

NFF President, Sani Lulu, has insisted that Amodu be retained, arguing that he still believes the Eagles under the former BCC Lions coach would fly to South Africa 2010 even though they are two points adrift of group leaders, Tunisia.
