Celtel Nigeria last week demonstrated that its network is not for the poor masses alone. The pan-African mobile service providers inaugurated what it terms an Exclusive Club in the Nigerian market.
The Exclusive Club is not a social club in generic terms. Rather it is a designed special package for its customers. “We call it the Exclusive Club. It is, indeed, exclusive because it features a unique pool of customers,” Mr Bayo Ligali, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, explained.

According to him, The Exclusive Club perfectly combines the attributes of a loyalty scheme and a reward programme. He said: “Membership of the Exclusive Club is expected to give our high net-worth customers access to preferential treatment and a number of benefits including attractive discounts in several outlets belonging to our strategic partners.

“This is in addition to the standard benefits you normally enjoy as a post-paid customer, which includes free emergency rescue service available by dialling 199 on the Celtel Network.”
In 2008, we are committing another $1billion to making a final push for world class Quality of Service. We plan to grow our base stations from 3,100 at the end of 2007 to over 4,000 by the end of this year. The construction of our 4,000 km fibre optic backbone and extension of our microwave backbone from 3,000km to 5,000km are top priorities this year.

We are also investing $10 million in building a Network Monitoring Centre, which will be completed by the end of the year. This will enable us achieve real-time fault detection and rectification in our operations. Recently, we concluded a massive generator swap and dualization in Lagos, and the project is currently ongoing in other regions.
