In the hall you find a number of women wearing colorful outfits
and at the centre was Magdalene Fatogun, the newly installed
president of Mushin Inner Wheel Club. The lady was clad in
blue organza lace made into a smart skirt and blouse with
pink headgear and matching shawl.
"You have to carry your members along, you have to follow
the constitution and by the powers conferred on me by the
constitution I hereby decorate you", begin Joke Kukoyi,
a veteran of the association.
For Fatogun, this is indeed, a new beginning for a better
and brighter future. "When I joined, Inner Wheel club
of Mushin was down and we had to revive it from the beginning.
It was fun but the most interesting encounters were periods
when we touched the lives of the less privileged ones in the
society. We have had to visit the Chesire home, Old People’s
Home at Regina Mundi and sharing from our widow’s mite."
The amiable woman also tells you some of the achievements
of the organization in the area. " We have presented
exercise books to some schools in Mushin, food and clothing
to old people’s home and money to Cheshire home. Last
year, we presented items to market women, five sewing machines
and bags of salt. We also had a programme with the Spinal
Cord Injuries Association (SCIAN)".
Just before Fatogun emerged as president, she had served in
various capacities and proved her mettle. "I was secretary
for two years and I became the vice president just before
I emerged as president of the club."
Fatogun was born in Lagos in 1973 to the family of Francis
Egbegune. "I had my early education at Falomo High School,
Ikoyi. I was in the school between 1985 and 1991 and I passed
out in flying colours," she says with pride.
She then proceeded to the Institute of Management and Technology(IMT),
Enugu for her Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication.
Later on, Fatogun went to the Delta State University, Abraka
for her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Literary Studies.
Meg, as she is fondly called, started her working experience
during her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) at the Benue
State Police Command in 1999. Then she served as a teacher
with the Police Children School, Markurdi. She was also at
the AOM Specialist Hospital, Jibowu Lagos as an administrative
officer in 2000.
"After a stint as a journalists with the TV investigative
programme "Crime fighters – the police and you,
I returned to school for my post graduate degree in Public
administration at the Lagos State University".
Upon completion of her master’s degree, Fatogun started
a career in an oil-marketing firm, as the head of administration.
"This is a position that I hold till date. My hobbies
include reading, traveling and I enjoy meeting people of like
minds".
The dynamic lady also tells you about the homefront and the
things that make her tick. "I am happily married to my
soulmate and tagteam partner, Rotarian Babafemi Fatogun. Every
day and year our relationship waxes stronger, especially because
we share the same birthday", Fatogun informs.
